I got this from the NDC folks:
Entry is the correct term to refer to an archival series. HMS ID is a computer generated number that will allow our reference folks to provide you with a shelf location for ordering boxes from an entry. HMS Entry is the listing of a series in our Holdings Management System (HMS). Also, the NND Number is the declassification project number assigned to the entry. It is used to mark copies of declassified records as well as serves as a pointer to the project dossier for a particluar declassification project. While the records liste on teh .xls spreadsheet have been delcassified and are available for research, many still need enhanced description and/or preservation.
